Instead of War – Quiet and Peaceable Life

We could even write it on the pulpit as our prayer agenda. Nowadays, during the Prime Minister’s speeches, we can see the words Peace and Security on the front side of his pulpit (this motto may frighten many people because of its Biblical context, but I will comment on it in a couple of words below). The same way we should now write on our spiritual pulpits, on the front side of our intercessions, what we represent before God our Father –

Quiet and peacable life.

Sometimes I watch the announcements of the head of government of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, and in the latest one he was definitely saying what has already been in the air, that World War III is an actual threat today. I do not intend to step out to the political arena with this thread, only to the arena of the potential of our faith, the arena of Biblical guidance.

Although the field of politics is a web of open and hidden motives, I think it is not primarily seeing through it what will make us able to pray the right way, but the Word of God. Also, it is not the spirit of fear what determines our attitude towards the situation, but as Paul exhorted Timothy,

the spirit of power, love and sober mind is operating in us, and that is what we have to attend to (1 Timothy 1:7).

Likewise, our primary duty, being warned of the possibility of a world war, is to stand and brace ourselves as for our God-given life and potential.

Let us make ourselves aware of the fact that we have got an inner source from God, that carries power, love and sober mind in us. Fear debilitates you, but thanks be to God, we do not have to be exposed to these feelings. Should we begin to be afraid, let us remind ourselves, that we have the potential to turn the situation and present our requests with thanksgiving, that He will answer with His peace. (See Philippians 4:6-7) It is noteworthy that then the Scripture teaches us to direct our thoughts to be in alignment with God, together with actions that fit, and we will see that God,

the God of peace, is with us. (see verses 8-9)

What we can do now is taking a simple yet important step – using our authority to pray with one accord, and to present our request with faith and thanksgiving, that we may lead a quet and peacable life in all godliness and reverence.

Let the text of this scripture be displayed here:

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4 NKJV)

Years ago, I published a prophetic insight here on Prófétai Napló (since then I published it repeatedly as a reminder), which was born in several steps, in 2012 and 2014. The point of the message is that there will be a curfew for a period of time in the North-East region of Hungary. (The part given in 2012 was about the difference between the regions of the country, the other one in 2014 was about more specific details, some indirect consequences of the war in Ukraine). Obviously, there will be other significant events besides that, and this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Knowing the teachings of Jesus and the whole Scripture on prophecies, I want to remind you that prophetic forecast is not for our harm but our benefit, just like the above mentioned future event itself, too. God wants to show us His provision by this, so that we can see that He is watching over us, and the fervent prayer of the righteous avails much. (See also John 16:1,4 “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble […] that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.”)

I want to encourage you to attend to those teachers and leaders who speak without stirring fear or uncertainty but with sober mind about the responsibility and potential of prayer, and intercessions and thanksgiving be made… Not out of fear but believing that through the faith in Jesus Christ you are righteous ones and your fervent prayers avail much.

Moreover, praying in one accord increases the effectiveness of faith. (See Matthew 18:19-20)

Political leaders today take the terms used by the world – just as the Prime Minister applied the phrase Peace and security. As believers who know the Bible, we recognize one of the closing momentums of the last days in this phrase, however, let me remind you that this catchword has been regularly used mainly by political leaders since the 1960’s, during various tensions in world politics.

The goal itself described by this two-word phrase, is a Godly one. Just a little knowledge of God’s values in the Bible will tell you that His actual intention is that there will be peace and people can be in security. Certainly, righteousness and Godly values have a direct effect on these conditions becoming constant in the lives of the people.

Indeed, there will be a moment at the end of the present period of history, when the person deceiving the whole world announces that the state of peace and security has come, but it will be a lie, and sudden distruction comes upon them (1 Thess 5:3 and context). At present we are far from someone beguiling the human race with such a result. Yet, the goal itself, as described by this phrase used for more than fifty years now, is a good one; and we pray for the same goal, more specifically, that we can lead a quiet and peacable life, with one important aspect added – in all godliness and reverence.

Let us pray therefore, that godliness will also prevail, in our personal lives primarily (or the ‘fear of God’ which does not mean being afraid of Him, but being fully focused on Him, reverence and worship), and that the same will mark our environment, as well. That is what can ensure that peace will not be fragile but stable, and security will not only be a result of man’s arrangements and negotiations, but the outcome of our covenant and co-operation with God through Jesus Christ.
